Cameroonian football legend, Samuel Eto’o, has declared his intent to take legal action against the Confederation of African Football following his summons for questioning regarding allegations of match-fixing.
Eto’o, formerly Barcelona forward, faces accusations related to his role as head of the Cameroonian Football Federation allegedly involving the promotion of a team linked to a close associate.
In addition to the match-fixing claims, Eto’o is accused of spreading false information, making threats, inciting violence, and abusing power, as detailed in a comprehensive report forwarded to FIFA.
The football administrator recently appeared before a disciplinary panel convened by CAF last Wednesday, although the panel’s findings have yet to be disclosed officially by CAF.
Expressing dissatisfaction with the process, Eto’o, the head of Cameroonian Football Federation, stated after the hearing, “I have instructed my legal team to initiate proceedings against CAF to establish accountability. It was far too easy to tarnish everything I’ve worked to build in these years in football. CAF prematurely issued a press release, which is unacceptable.”
Separately, Eto’o had a recent altercation with Belgian coach Marc Brys, appointed by the Cameroonian government as the national team’s new coach without Eto’o’s consent in his FECAFOOT capacity.
