The Rivers State Police Command has disclosed that it has arrested four officers who assaulted a woman in a viral video.
Police disclosed this in a statement on Monday noting that the officers have been identified and are currently in custody.
The video, which went viral on social media on Friday, September 1, shows a woman shouting at some armed policemen along a highway and accusing them of inflicting an injury on her sister, who also appeared to be injured.
The woman, whose name was not mentioned in the video, can be heard saying, “This is the Nigerian Police. Look at my sister’s mouth. Policemen gave my sister beta injury, and you are here making a video of me. After giving my sister an injury, did you see anything in my sister’s bag? Never.”
The police stressed that it is committed to ensuring a fair and thorough examination of the matter.
The force equally called on the lady seen in the video to please come forward and share her side of the story to ensure transparency and gather all perspectives.
“Your input is crucial in helping us understand the situation fully. Your safety and well-being are our top priorities,” it added.
