The Rivers State Government has stated that it has not yet received any official communication regarding the resolution of the Martin Amaewhule-led House of Assembly, despite reports circulating online.
This follows a letter reportedly sent by Speaker Martin Amaewhule to Governor Siminalayi Fubara on Monday, requesting that the 2025 Appropriation Bill be presented to the Assembly within 48 hours, in line with the 1999 Constitution.
However, in a statement released on Wednesday, the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Tammy Danagogo, clarified that neither the governor’s office nor any relevant government department has received the letter.
“We came across a letter dated March 3, 2025, on social media. As of the close of work on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, we are yet to receive the said letter. Neither the Office of the Governor, the Deputy Governor, nor the Accountant-General’s Office has received it,” Danagogo stated.
He also noted that the government is still awaiting the certified true copy of last Friday’s Supreme Court judgment to determine the appropriate course of action.
“We have been in contact with our lawyers, who are still awaiting the certified true copy of the Supreme Court judgments. His Excellency will strive to implement the ruling as soon as he receives it, in the best interest of the people of Rivers State,” he added.
Reaffirming Governor Fubara’s commitment to upholding the rule of law, Danagogo referenced the governor’s statewide broadcast on Sunday, March 2, 2025.
“In his broadcast, the governor made it clear that, despite his personal views on the Supreme Court rulings, he remains committed to obeying and implementing them in accordance with the rule of law and in the best interest of Rivers people,” he said.
