A man, identified as Promise Thompson, has been sentenced to death by hanging for armed robbery and child theft by an high court sitting in Port Harcourt.
According to The PUNCH, Thompson and his co-conspirator, Beatrice Ogbunka, were on trial on three counts of armed robbery, kidnapping, and child theft, as well as for shooting one Chidiebere Ogbugu and snatching his five-year-old child.
It was also reported that the incident
occurred on October 25, 2018, in Rumuolumeni, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, Rivers State.
Also, the his accomplice, Beatrice, was said to have fled once the police granted her bail.
In his ruling, the presiding judge, Justice Sika Henry-Aprioku, stated that the prosecution proved Promise Thompson took the newborn to Abia State and sold him to a syndicate, which then sold the boy to a second syndicate.
Henry-Aprioku also imposed a seven-year term on Queen Chisom Lucky and a ten-year sentence on her husband, Mr. Lucky, for child theft, for purchasing the boy from Promise and then selling him.
