The Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd.), has called on paramilitary agencies to step up their patrol efforts to curb crime and enhance security across the state.
Emphasizing the importance of synergy among security agencies, Ibas highlighted that sustainable development is only achievable in a peaceful environment.
He stressed the need for intensified measures to prevent criminal activities from gaining ground and disrupting public safety.
Ibas delivered this directive during a meeting with heads of paramilitary organizations at the Government House in Port Harcourt on Friday.
Recognizing their vital role in maintaining law and order, he acknowledged their contributions to keeping Rivers State secure.
He further urged them to actively engage in joint operations aimed at weakening criminal networks and ensuring a safer society.
“If you have people who can conduct their legitimate business and they are not able to conduct their business as enshrined in our laws, then they lose out, and criminals take over control of the state,” Ibas stated.
Reiterating his commitment to a crime-free Rivers State, he underscored the collective responsibility of security agencies to protect lives and property.
“I will, therefore, need you in all aspects of maintaining law and order. It, therefore, means that in conducting your various roles, you must have at heart the interest of Nigeria and the people of Rivers State in particular,” he said.
Ibas directed the security agencies to intensify patrols, cautioning against allowing criminals to exploit state resources.
“I will hereby, direct that you increase your patrols. If criminals have access to our resources, of course, that means you are emboldening them.
“The responsibility has been given to individuals and organisations, and as such, we must all work towards making sure that this state is very safe,” he added.
