The nation’s social circle is one which has been hugely brought alive and sustained with the various contributions of the various Nigerian celebrities who have continued to thrill their respective fans with their various unique creativities and contents.
In no small measure, many of these celebrities are greatly adored for the value they add to the social scene and given their relevance, it’s always heartbreaking when there are unfortunate reports of the loss of some of these celebrities as their absence is hugely felt given the unique value each celebrity carries and the nearly impossible task of filling the vacuum left behind by their demise.
This piece covers a list of some prominent Nigerian celebrities who died in car accidents:
1. Rico Swavey – This is the demise of the former Big brother Naija star is one which many have as described very unfortunate.
His death was announced by ex-housemate, Tobi Bakare on Thursday 13th of October 2022.
The light-skinned energetic and much loved Swavey was involved in an accident on Tuesday, October 11, 2022, and it’s rather sad that the efforts of his family and friends as well as that of doctors treating him proved abortive as Nigerians had to say goodbye to him.
2. DAGRIN – The fast-rising music prodigy’s career was abruptly put to an end sending many Nigerians into a great wave of sadness when his death was announced.
Given how both Nigerians and his fans were shocked by his passing, his death continues to rank as one of the biggest tragedies in the country’s music business.
Dagrin was a rapper whose skills knew no limitations before artists like Ycee, Ladipoe, and Falz gained notoriety.
Dagrin demonstrated he was a force to be reckoned with in the entertainment world and a rap legend people would talk about for decades after winning the hearts of many Nigerians with his smash album, CEO.
On the evening of April 14, 2010, the gifted rapper crashed his brand-new Nissan Maxima into a parked vehicle in front of the Alakara Police Station in Mushin, Lagos. After the vehicle accident, he was brought to two hospitals, but he remained in a coma for eight days before he finally passed away.
He died on April 22, 2010, at the age of 25.
3. CD JOHN – The demise of the fast-rising stand-up comedian, CD John, famous for his imaginary Igbo jokes was one which sent the Nigerian entertainment industry into a great mourning period.
According to reports, CD John died at St. Nicholas Hospital on Thursday morning from complications resulting from an accident last night in which his black Gulf 2 automobile collided with a stationary vehicle on Lagos Island.
According to insiders, he was on his way back from Questionmark act Harrysong’s album listening party in Tribeca, where he served as the MC. When the accident occurred, he was travelling back to his Jakande Estate house in Isolo.
The rib cracker, born John Chijioke, was a fresh face to enter the comedy scene in 2010 and will be remembered for his unique way of making jokes from famous Christian tunes.
4. AHMED ISHOLA DUROJAIYE – Ahmed Ishola Durojaiye, popularly known as Alasari, a Yoruba actor, died on March 20, 2011, at the Federal Medical Centre, Abeokuta, where he was being treated following a horrific accident on the Lagos-Abeokuta expressroad.
Durojaiye was on his way to Abeokuta to promote his forthcoming movie, titled Omo Night Club, when he met his untimely death
5. MC LOPH – The popular musician who was known for his Osondi Owendi where he featured Flavour died on the September 14, 2011.
MC Loph was on his way to his village along with his elder sister for his traditional marriage when their car suffered a ghastly car crash and they died.
6. J.T TOM WEST – JT Tom West’s life and career were cut tragically short when he was killed at the age of 41 in a car accident on his way home from a late-night filming location.
A few days after the accident, on September 28, 2006, he was sent to Ikeja General Hospital in Lagos, where he later died of internal haemorrhage.
7. OLIVER DUKE – Popularly called “Do Good”, the actor died from injuries he sustained in a fatal accident on his way back to Lagos from Eket, Akwa Ibom after attending his mother’s burial.
Oliver Duke, who also went by the name McLinchung, was born on October 30 and passed away on April 3 of this year. At the Kwara State Polytechnic, he studied Business Administration.
He was an OAP with Ray Power Fm before pursuing his childhood passion of being an actor.
Sylvanus portrayed the part of a stingy businessman who adored his money and a waitress named Adaku in the well-liked M-Net sitcom series “Do Good.”
8. EBERE LARRY EBERE – This Nollywood actor who was also known as Cornel passed away in April 2019 in Asaba following a horrifying vehicle accident.
Ebere Larry Ebere was the first Nigerian celebrity to pass away in an automobile accident in 2019. He passed away a few days after having head surgery as a result of the accident.
Ebere Larry Ebere appeared in a lot of Nollywood movies before he passed away. He was a star in Nollywood during its formative years.
