The House of Representatives has launched an inquiry into the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission following allegations that the agency received ₦15 million from crossdresser Idris Okuneye, also known as Bobrisky.
This decision follows claims made by social media influencer, Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, who alleged that Bobrisky served a jail term in a private residence rather than a correctional facility after being convicted for defacing the naira.
According to Tribune, a member representing Ikot Ekpene/Essien Udim/Obot Akara federal constituency, Hon. Patrick Umoh raised the motion titled, “Urgent Need to Investigate the Disturbing Allegation of Corruption against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and the Nigerian Correctional Service.” The House, in response, resolved to set up a committee to probe the claims.
In presenting the motion, Umoh said, “The House notes the disturbing and widely circulated allegations made by Martins Vincent Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan, against key Nigerian law enforcement institutions — the EFCC and the Nigerian Correctional Service.”
He added, “It has been alleged that the EFCC dropped money laundering charges against Idris Okuneye upon receiving ₦15 million.
Furthermore, it is claimed that Bobrisky, upon conviction for defacing the naira, did not serve his sentence within the Nigerian Correctional Service but was housed elsewhere.”
The motion urged the House to form an ad-hoc committee consisting of individuals “of unquestionable integrity” to investigate the matter and submit a report within three legislative weeks.
