The House of Representatives has donated ₦100 million to support victims of the recent flooding in Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State.
A delegation led by Alhassan Doguwa, Chairman of the Northern Regional Caucus, visited the state on Tuesday to express sympathy and announce the financial intervention on behalf of the legislative body.
According to The PUNCH, during a meeting with Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Zulum, Doguwa conveyed the House’s condolences and announced the donation, stating it was made on behalf of Speaker Tajudeen Abbas.
Addressing the media at the Government House in Maiduguri, Doguwa praised President Bola Tinubu for his swift response to the disaster and the Federal Government’s pledge to assist the state.
“We commend President Tinubu for his immediate and effective action in addressing the situation in Borno State,” Doguwa stated. “The President’s assurance of Federal Government support to both the state and the flood victims is highly appreciated.”
Doguwa also emphasized the readiness of the National Assembly to collaborate with the Federal Government to create a legislative framework for better disaster management.
“We are committed to working with the Federal Government to explore legislative measures or budgetary interventions that will help states address the impacts of flood disasters across the country,” he added.
The flooding in Maiduguri has caused significant damage, and the financial aid is expected to assist with relief efforts for affected communities.
