The House of Representatives Committee on Works has raised the possibility of shifting from the conventional use of asphalt to concrete for road construction.
This noteworthy consideration comes in the wake of growing advocacy, with the Minister of Works, David Umahi, endorsing concrete-laid roads, highlighting their durability when compared to asphalt-laid counterparts.
Chairman of the committee, Akin Alabi, conveyed this significant development during the committee’s inaugural meeting, where he emphasized the importance of vigilant oversight over the Ministry of Works and its affiliated agencies.
Alabi expressed confidence that with effective monitoring and supervision, the nation could witness a tangible transformation in its road infrastructure.
Comprising representatives from all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory , the committee recognizes the pressing challenges within the road sector and is committed to becoming more productive and focused in addressing these issues.
This shift towards concrete as a road construction material holds the promise of enhanced durability and longevity for Nigeria’s road network, with potential benefits for the nation’s infrastructure landscape.
