Real Madrid has confirmed that their goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has been diagnosed with a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament.
The Spanish club stated this ahead of its league opener against Athletic Club at San Mames on Saturday
“After the tests carried out on our player Thibaut Courtois, he’s been diagnosed with a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament of his left knee,” Real Madrid’s statement read in part.
“The player will undergo surgery in the coming days.”
The Belgian goalkeeper is due to miss most if not all of the campaign, leaving Andriy Lunin as the only senior option to fill in for him. Manager Carlo Ancelotti has been looking to replace Lunin as it is, and so it seems probable they will go into the transfer market to find a new shot-stopper.
