Real Madrid have announced that Lucas Vazquez has penned a new one-year contract with the club.
The 33-year-old, whose previous deal expired this summer, was widely expected to extend his stay despite early rumours of a possible exit.
Now official, Lucas’ new contract secures his place in the squad for a tenth season.
According to AS, the renewal terms remain the same as last season, with both parties eager to finalize the agreement swiftly.
Lucas will continue to provide cover for Dani Carvajal, but has also been utilized further up the field in his original attacking position.
Manager Carlo Ancelotti has consistently highlighted Lucas’ value to the team.
“He is playing at a very high level, he competes with Carvajal, who is one of the best full-backs in the world,” Ancelotti stated last season. “Lucas has also made the difference in other games.”
Affectionately nicknamed ‘Cafucas’—a nod to the legendary Brazilian right-back Cafu—Lucas has earned significant praise. Cafu himself acknowledged the moniker, telling MARCA, “It’s very gratifying that they call him ‘Cafucas’ in my honour.”
Last season, Lucas made 38 appearances across all competitions, bringing his total to 349, placing him 34th on Real Madrid’s all-time appearance list.
