Tweeps criticized the presidential candidate of the All Progressive Congress, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, after he crowned the Argentine Talisman, Lionel Messi, the ‘Emi lo kan of Doha’.
Tinubu made this statement via his Twitter handle on Sunday after the final game of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
In a historic final, Argentina defeated France in penalty shootouts 4-2, after ending the match in a 3-3 draw.
Messi, finally got his World Cup win since the start of his football career and the APC flag bearer likened the football legend to himself.
The ‘Emi lo kan’ coinage began with Tinubu earlier in the year during his first campaign in Ogun state. The Yoruba coinage means ‘it’s my turn’, meaning it’s his turn to become president.
His usage for Messi would, therefore, refer to the long awaited World Cup win that he finally had at Doha, the capital of Qatar.
Supporters and critics have immediately taken to Twitter antics, responding with disdain, praise and more:
Daniel Regha @Daniel Regha, Replying to @officialABAT: “Tinubu u can see Messi plans not to participate in the World Cup after this, cos he’s getting old; He knows the younger ones are more qualified for the job next time. That’s something worth emulating. Apply this philosophy in politics, u are contesting but u are not fit to rule.”
PAPI WADE @thepapiwadee, Replying to @officialABAT: “He tried 5 times before winning it, so you sef go try 5 times boss”
