The Osun State Speaker of the House of Assembly, Adewale Egbedun, has expressed displeasure at some policemen extorting money from passengers in the state.
A viral video online showed some police officers covering their faces as a voice in the background claimed they were extorting money from passersby.
According to him, the speaker collected back the money from them, and he was also seen in the video urging the onlookers to make a video of the police officers.
The illegal act of police officers extorting money from the citizens at various checkpoints is no longer new, which many netizens pointed out while reacting to the video:
@iykemann hailed the former IGP that he would have sacked the policemen captured on camera, he wrote, “I don’t know about this IGP but under the last one, these Policemen have lost their jobs already. IGP Alkali Baba had zero tolerance for Policemen caught on camera extorting civilians. These ones should be rounded up, given orderly room trial and promptly dismissed.”
@dabira_idowu felt this exposure should spread even to the lawmakers, especially, after a recent video showed Senate President Godswill Akpabio say a token was sent to the Senators to enjoy their holiday. The X user wrote, “Who will arrest Akpabio and his goons at the senate? Likewise other rulers or who are stealing from us every now and then. If these ones can be arrested like this, the treatment should go round pls.”
@Adek04835761 made a comic relief from the scenario as he wrote, “Una Dey catch bad police ontop bad road Dey catch bad guys collect bad money from their hand . No place Funnier than Earth, only this my side funny pass earth.”
According to @emmyuoma, “Nigerian Police will never Change, despite the salary increase by GMB. NPF and PSC needs massive reform so many officers have been in a particular state for 10years.”
@Oluwa2mise_Dj wrote, “Both the police and honorable re sick 💯💯💯… Imagine the road you guys are 🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️ @AAdeleke_01 God will not shame u sir 🙏🏼.. please help.”
