Raphael Varane has confirmed that he will be departing Manchester United at the conclusion of the 2023/24 season, as his contract expires.
Varane made this disclosure in a video he posted on both his Instagram and X pages on Tuesday.
The 31-year-old defender joined United in 2021 but has faced challenges in maintaining the high level of performance he exhibited during his successful decade-long tenure at Real Madrid.
During his time at United, Varane has been limited to 93 appearances over three seasons, with injuries playing a significant role in restricting his playing time.
“To you guys, supporters of Manchester United, it´s been an amazing few years to play for this special club and wear that shirt.
“The first time I went to Old Trafford as a Man United player was insane, the atmosphere was amazing.
“I fell in love with the club, with the fans. You have to play for Man United to understand what that represents. For my kids, it´s home here. It´s going to be a special place for me, for life.”
Varane stated that he was “very positive for the future” in light of Jim Ratcliffe’s arrival as a co-owner, even though the Red Devils are currently 8th in the English Premier League standings.
“The new owners are coming with a clear plan and a great strategy,” Varane said, ahead of the home match against Newcastle on Wednesday.
“I´ll see you at Old Trafford to say goodbye for the last game at home this season and it´s going to be very emotional day for me, for sure,” he said
Before his transfer to Manchester United, Raphael Varane enjoyed a highly successful tenure at Real Madrid. During his time with the Spanish giants, Varane won an impressive array of titles, including four UEFA Champions League trophies.
He notably became the youngest defender to achieve this feat. Additionally, Varane secured three La Liga titles, four FIFA Club World Cups, three European Super Cups, and one Copa del Rey, among other honours.
However, Varane’s success at Real Madrid did not quite translate to his time at Manchester United.
Despite his efforts, he was only able to secure the Carabao Cup during his stint at the English club, which stands as his sole trophy won during his time there.
