A solemn funeral prayer was conducted in Tehran Wednesday to honour the memory of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, and other officials who perished in a helicopter crash on Sunday.
Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, presided over the prayer at Tehran University, drawing thousands of mourners eager to participate in the limited-space event.
Subsequently, vast crowds assembled at Revolution Square, Enghelab Square and the adjacent streets, converging on Azadi Square for the funeral ceremony.
To accommodate the swelling number of attendees, officials guided the public from Azadi Street to Azadi Square.
Post-ceremony, President Raisi’s body is slated to be transported to Mashhad, while Foreign Minister Amir-Abdollahian will be interred in Tehran.
The interment ceremonies are planned for Thursday.
The tragic helicopter crash occurred on May 19 in East Azerbaijan province, resulting in the deaths of all passengers and crew, as confirmed by Pir Hossein Kolivand, head of the Iranian Red Crescent Society, on Monday.
