Tennis legend Rafael Nadal has officially announced his retirement, bringing an end to a stellar career that has seen him claim 22 Grand Slam titles and solidify his place among the greatest players in the sport’s history.
According to The Telegraph, the 38-year-old Spaniard revealed that his final tournament will be the Davis Cup finals, which will take place in November in Malaga.
Nadal, who has been sidelined since competing in the Paris Olympics earlier this year, will return to action as Spain faces the Netherlands in the Davis Cup quarter-finals from November 19 to 21.
Despite not participating in the group stage due to injury, he has been added to the Spanish squad for what will be his farewell event.
In a video announcing his decision, Nadal reflected on his career and the timing of his retirement. “In life, everything has a beginning and an end,” he said.
“I believe now is the right time to close this chapter of my life. My career has been longer and far more successful than I could have ever imagined.”
Nadal expressed his excitement about finishing his journey by representing Spain one last time. “Ending my career at the Davis Cup, where one of my earliest professional highlights came in 2004, feels like I’ve come full circle,” he added.
