In response to recent disturbances during the #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protest, the Kano State Government has announced a relaxation of the curfew initially imposed on residents.
The curfew, now set from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., aims to restore normalcy in the state, according to a Sunday broadcast by the State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Baba Dantiye.
According to The PUNCH, Commissioner Dantiye conveyed Governor Abba Yusuf’s condolences to the families affected by the violent protests and urged residents to adhere to the new curfew hours.
He assured that the curfew would be further reviewed as the security situation improves and appealed for continued prayers for peace and stability.
Similarly, the Jigawa State Government has also eased the curfew in eight local government areas affected by the protests.
According to a statement by the Commissioner for Information, Sagir Musa, the curfew has been adjusted from 6:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. in the affected areas, including Babura, Birnin Kudu, Dutse, Gumel, Hadejia, Kazaure, Kiyawa, and Roni.
“It has been relaxed from 6:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. from Sunday, Aug. 4, 2024, pending when the security situation further improves.
“The State Joint Security Committee has also lifted the curfew in 19 LGAs of the state where there was no report of any violence during the protest,” the statement said.
The curfew has been completely lifted in 19 other local government areas where no violence was reported.
Governor Umar Namadi praised the residents for their patience and cooperation during the curfew and commended the security agencies for their professionalism and dedication in managing the protest.
He called for continued prayers for peace and stability in Nigeria.
Both state governments emphasized their commitment to monitoring the situation and ensuring the safety and well-being of their citizens.
