Social media critic Martin Otse, widely known as VeryDarkMan, has publicly responded to an invitation from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission after accusing some of its personnel of corruption.
In a video posted on his Instagram page on Wednesday, Otse urged the EFCC to investigate its own officers before summoning him.
His accusations stem from claims that certain EFCC officials took a N15 million bribe from cross-dresser Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, to drop money laundering charges against him.
“The EFCC’s statement didn’t even address the core issue. Why didn’t they confirm whether Bobrisky was in their custody?” Otse asked in the video. “Bobrisky is the main suspect here. The EFCC should have clarified that first.”
Otse further challenged the anti-graft agency, stating, “Before inviting someone like me, you need to thoroughly investigate your officers, especially those involved in Bobrisky’s case. Check their accounts and actions before calling me in.”
Expressing distrust in the EFCC, VeryDarkMan insisted he would only consider cooperating if the investigation were moved to the agency’s headquarters in Abuja, citing concerns about being “set up.”
“You’re asking me to come to Lagos when the EFCC headquarters is in Abuja—it doesn’t make sense. Invite Bobrisky to Abuja for the investigation,” he suggested. “I don’t have N15 million to settle anything, and I don’t have a godfather. Investigate your officers first, then talk to me.”
Otse also made light of the situation, saying if he were to attend, the EFCC would need to accommodate him in a first-class flight and luxury hotel. “Even if I want to come, you have to book me a first-class ticket and a five-star hotel,” he joked.
His remarks came after the EFCC summoned him for questioning following the release of a call recording in which Bobrisky allegedly claimed that unnamed EFCC officials accepted a bribe to drop charges against him.
