Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal comfortably advanced to the last 16 of Euro 2024 with a commanding 3-0 victory over Turkey on Saturday.
In a match held in Dortmund, Bernardo Silva and Bruno Fernandes found the net, supplemented by an own goal from Turkey’s Samet Akaydin.
This win marked Portugal’s second triumph in as many matches, ensuring they topped Group F.
Silva opened the scoring in the 21st minute, netting his first goal in a major international tournament.
A cross from Nuno Mendes, deflected off a Turkish defender, fell to the Manchester City star, who skillfully finished past the goalkeeper.
Just seven minutes later, Akaydin’s attempted back pass to his goalkeeper went horribly wrong. With the goalkeeper out of position, the ball trickled into the net despite frantic efforts to stop it.
Portugal maintained their dominance and sealed the victory when substitute Ruben Neves launched a long ball to Ronaldo.
Beating the offside trap, Ronaldo drew the goalkeeper out and unselfishly passed to Fernandes, who slotted it into an empty net.
This victory secured Portugal’s position at the top of Group F with six points, leaving Turkey trailing in second place, and Georgia and the Czech Republic further behind with one game remaining.
