The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited has confirmed that the 60,000 barrels-per-day Old Port Harcourt Refinery is still fully operational.
The refinery, which resumed operations in November 2024 after undergoing rehabilitation, has been enhancing domestic supply since its restart.
This clarification came through a statement issued on Saturday by NNPCL’s Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Mr. Olufemi Soneye.
Contrary to recent media reports suggesting the refinery has ceased operations and left tanker drivers stranded, Soneye refuted the claims, affirming that loading activities are ongoing.
In the statement, Soneye emphasized, “The attention of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) has been drawn to reports in a section of the media alleging that the Old Port Harcourt Refinery which was re-streamed two months ago has been shut down.
“We wish to clarify that such reports are totally false as the refinery is fully operational as verified a few days ago by former Group Managing Directors of NNPC. Preparation for the day’s loading operation is currently ongoing.”
