Head of the Catholic Church, Pope Francis has officially given a nod for the Catholic church to permit gat marriage.
This was announced by the Vatican through its official website on Monday.
As per a Vatican document sanctioned by the pope, the blessings can take place, but they must remain distinct from customary Church rituals or liturgical practices.
Additionally, they should not coincide with or be concurrent to a civil union ceremony.
For a considerable time, the Vatican maintained its stance against blessing same-sex couples, citing concerns about contradicting the church doctrine that strictly defines marriage as solely between a man and a woman.
A recent guideline, introduced by Cardinal Víctor Manuel Fernández and outlined in a declaration by the church’s doctrinal office, asserted that the allowance for blessings did not alter the established church doctrine on marriage.
This directive clarified that no ceremonial practice would resemble or be mistaken for the sacrament of marriage, thereby upholding the traditional stance while permitting these blessings.
