Operatives of the Kaduna State Police Command, along with local vigilantes, successfully thwarted an armed robbery attempt on the Kano-Zaria Road.
Early Tuesday morning, the robbers, suspected to be cattle rustlers, had blocked the road with logs and stones.
However, the security team arrived in time to disrupt their operation.
According to a statement from the spokesperson for the State Police Command, Mansir Hassan, the road was promptly cleared, ensuring motorists could continue safely. Efforts to catch the fleeing suspects persisted throughout the morning. After a shootout, the criminals abandoned their Golf Volkswagen car, registered APP 166 DG, and escaped.
In a separate incident in Rugar Sojidi, a Fulani settlement near Issan Makaranta in Kagarko LGA, villagers confronted a gang of bandits attempting to abduct residents. The villagers managed to kill one of the bandits.
Mr. Hassan reported that the bandits had already kidnapped three people from the area when the villagers intervened.
“The incident occurred around 01:30 a.m. on Tuesday when the police in Jere received information about armed bandits invading Rugar Sojidi,” he said.
“Upon arrival, they found that local residents had already thwarted the bandits’ efforts and neutralised one of them. An AK-47 rifle and six rounds of ammunition were recovered at the scene. All three kidnap victims were safely rescued.”
The state Commissioner of Police, Audu Dabigi, praised the officers’ bravery and reassured the public of ongoing efforts to maintain peace and security in the region.
