The police in Lagos State threatened to arrest protesters during the second anniversary of the #EndSARS protest and the massacre of protesters on October 20, 2020, if they breach the protest agreement.
Heavy police presence, with about 25 police cars and one black maria, was spotted at both sides of the toll gate as youths gather for a memorial procession at the Lekki Toll Gate on Thursday.
According to The PUNCH, a police officer who wouldn’t like his name on print said, “As long as they do not stop, we shouldn’t have a problem, because the agreement is that they don’t stop.
“But the moment anybody stops that person will be picked up and locked up in the van.”
The procession was announced by Nigerian rapper, Folarin Falana, popularly called Falz, on Wednesday, via his verified Twitter handle.
Falz noted that since various protests have been held during the course of the month and none was hijacked, then people should not be arrested during the proposed memorial/protest on Thursday.
He tweeted, “Different rallies have been happening across the country this month. Nobody or group hijacked it. Abeg we no wan hear say anybody wan hijack this one… We didn’t hear that the Police arrested or brutalized anyone during the rally. Let’s maintain the same energy pls. #EndSars.
“My people. The #EndSARSMemorial is to honour all victims of #EndSARS and Police Brutality. It is not a political rally. Banners of political parties or candidates should not be displayed. Please let us show respect. Thank you.”(sic)
According to the flier shared, the procession cars will pass through the toll gate, waving the Nigerian flags and chanting #EndSARS.
