The Nigeria Police Force arrested 30,313 suspects and recovered 1,984 firearms alongside 23,250 rounds of ammunition in 2024, according to the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.
The announcement was made during a strategic meeting held at the Goodluck Ebele Peacekeeping Hall, Force Headquarters, Abuja, where senior police officers convened to evaluate the Force’s achievements for the year and set plans for 2025.
The Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, stated that the meeting also highlighted the importance of innovation and adaptability in addressing emerging security challenges.
In his address, Egbetokun praised the dedication of officers, emphasizing their success in reducing crime and engaging with communities.
“The accomplishments we have achieved this year are a testament to the hard work and commitment of our officers. These results underscore the importance of fostering trust and collaboration between the police and the public,” he said.
Providing a summary of the year’s achievements, the IGP disclosed that the police had also rescued 1,581 victims of kidnapping while intensifying efforts to curb various heinous crimes.
Looking ahead to 2025, the Force is set to prioritize technological advancements and innovative strategies. “We are committed to learning from our experiences and adopting modern tools to ensure a proactive and efficient approach to crime prevention and investigation,” Egbetokun added.
The statement further revealed the Force’s plans to ensure safety during the festive season, with the IGP assuring Nigerians of comprehensive measures to maintain peace and security.
“The Nigeria Police Force remains steadfast in its mission to strengthen partnerships with citizens, uphold public safety, and foster accountability,” Adejobi stated.
