The Edo State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of two individuals, Kamsiru Abubakar, 20, and Akhor Daraman, 28, on suspicion of kidnapping in the state.
In a statement released on Saturday, the State Police Command’s Spokesperson, Moses Yamu, provided details of the arrest, explaining that the suspects were caught following a tip-off.
“On 05/02/2025 at about 09:45hrs, the police received credible information that suspected kidnappers were sighted around Ugonoba Village in Uhunmwode Local Government Area, Edo South.
“The Divisional Police Officer, leading the operatives of Operation Rescue, stormed the location. The suspected kidnappers took to their heels on sighting the police. They were chased, and the duo of Kamsiru Abubakar and Akhor Daraman were arrested.
“During preliminary investigation, some individuals who were victims identified the suspects to be part of the kidnappers that abducted them last year.
“Investigation has been expanded with a view of arresting other members of the kidnap syndicate,” the statement read.
According to Yamu, the Edo State Commissioner of Police, Betty Otimenyin, has reiterated the command’s commitment to ensuring public safety.
She also expressed gratitude to residents for their continued support and urged them to provide more valuable information that could aid in capturing criminals.
Yamu further noted that the CP’s security strategies were proving effective, as evidenced by the successful apprehension of suspected kidnappers.
