The Delta State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a suspected cultist who was attempting to become a leader of the Vikings confraternity while negotiating to purchase an AK-47 assault rifle valued at N1.3 million.
The suspect identified as Amanasu Victor was apprehended at a hideout associated with suspected kidnappers, who have been on the trail of law enforcement.
According to the Delta Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, Victor admitted that acquiring the gun was a requirement for his bid to become a cult leader.
“He said he belonged to the Vikings confraternity and was vying for the number 1 position and the condition to get the position is to own an AK-47 rifle. He was arrested while negotiating to buy an AK-47 rifle for #1,300,000 naira,” Edafe said.
The suspect said, “I was arrested because I wanted to buy an AK-47. I was asked to buy an AK-47 because I was going for the number one position of Vikings. I was arrested while negotiating to buy the rifle.”
Explaining how he could afford the N1.3 million rifle, Victor, a six-year member of the Vikings cult, disclosed that he runs a car wash but is also involved in internet fraud, specifically love scams.
He also revealed that his primary targets for scamming are elderly women, from whom he claims to have made as much as eight million naira.
“I have a car wash I manage and I also deal with internet fraud(Yahoo). I deceive old women, and white women on the internet,” he told the police. Asked the most he has made from his victims, he continued, “Sometimes, I get eight million.”
He continued, “I’ve been in the cult for six years” before he was interrupted by the PPRO who quizzed, “You are due to become a number one, why were you then asked to buy the gun?”
Victor replied, “It’s the condition I was given because they think I’m rich.”
