In a recent operation, the Akwa Ibom State Police Command successfully neutralized notorious kidnap kingpin Ubong Effiong Archibong, also known as ‘Condiment’, following a gun battle at his hideout in Uyanga Community, Cross River State.
The Police Public Relations Officer for Akwa Ibom State, ASP Timfon John, revealed this in a statement released on Thursday in Uyo.
Archibong, who led the Bling Bling Marine Strike Force that terrorized the Uruan/Oron waterways, was behind several heinous crimes, including the kidnapping of High Court Judge Joy Unwana and the murder of her police orderly, Inspector ThankGod Edet.
In the statement, ASP John detailed, “The State Police Command on Wednesday 28 August neutralized a dreaded kidnap kingpin/sea pirate whose stock in trade was to kidnap, kill, maim and cause havoc in the society.”
The statement further highlighted Archibong’s involvement in multiple criminal activities, including the “gruesome murder of the CEO Emem and Sons Ltd and kidnapping of his sales rep,” as well as the abduction of Pharmacist Joemel and the CEO of Mingles Hotel, Mr. Brown.
Archibong met his end during a shootout with police operatives at his Cross River hideout. Authorities recovered a G3 rifle along with four live rounds of ammunition from the scene.
His body was later taken to the morgue as investigations continue, with efforts underway to apprehend other members of his gang.
“The Suspect was neutralized during a gun battle with operatives of the Command in his hideout at Uyanga Community in Cross River State.One G3 riffle with four live ammunition were recovered from the suspect.
“The corpse of the suspect was recovered and deposited at the morgue. Investigations with intent to arrest other members of his gang are ongoing,” the statement added.
