The Ogun State Police Command has initiated a manhunt for those responsible for the murder of Adeleke Adeyinka, a councillorship candidate representing the All Progressives Congress in the upcoming local government elections.
The PUNCH reported that Adeyinka, who was running for the councillorship seat in Ward 15 of Abeokuta South Local Government Area, met a tragic end in the early hours of Saturday, when he was killed by individuals believed to be cultists.
According to eyewitness accounts, the attackers arrived in an unmarked vehicle and ambushed Adeyinka. They shot him at point-blank range before ensuring his death by violently smashing his head with stones.
The 40-year-old candidate, who also worked with the transport union in the bustling Panseke area of Abeokuta, was left lifeless at the scene.
Confirming the incident, Ogun State Police Command spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, pointed out that the police had launched a full-scale investigation into the murder.
“Efforts are ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspects,” Odutola said, adding that the police are working diligently to bring those responsible to justice.
Odutola further confirmed that the suspected cultists were behind the killing and that Adeyinka’s body had been released to his family.
The brutal nature of the crime has sent shockwaves through the local community, intensifying the urgency for the police to track down the perpetrators.
