Operatives of Ogun State Police Command have launched a manhunt for suspected armed robbers who raided a residence in the Onikoko area, robbing occupants of various possessions.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, explained that the incident occurred around 2:00 am on Monday, with the assailants forcefully entering the community and targeting a house with multiple occupants.
Armed with locally fabricated firearms and cutlasses, the three suspects reportedly stole a variety of valuables, including mobile phones, a laptop, Automated Teller Machine cards, and cash amounting to N30,000.
Providing further insights into the incident, Odutola stated, “According to a report dated 28/10/2024 from SUPOL Adigbe, on the night of October 28 at approximately 2:00 am in the Onikoko area, three armed robbers, equipped with locally made guns and cutlasses, invaded the home of a resident along with three of his neighbours.
“They made off with several items, including eight different types of phones, a laptop, ATM cards, and cash totaling N30,000. The value of other stolen items is still being assessed.”
Following the report, a police team quickly responded by sealing off exits to and from the community to apprehend the culprits.
The search operation, led by the Area Commander, extended throughout the area and resulted in the recovery of a bag suspected to have been abandoned by the fleeing robbers.
The bag, discovered hidden in bushes on the premises of Saint Louis College Onikoko, contained a locally made gun, two cutlasses, several ATM and SIM cards, and three cartridges.
“In response to the incident, the Area Commander led detectives to the crime scene, where the area was thoroughly searched. A bag was found hidden in a bush on the grounds of Saint Louis College Onikoko, which contained one locally made gun, two cutlasses, some ATM cards, SIM cards, and three cartridges,” Odutola explained.
“After receiving the complaint, the Area Commander ordered an immediate effort to track the stolen phone. He has also sealed off the exit points after receiving a radio alert concerning a suspected armed robbery,” the spokesperson added.
Meanwhile, the Ogun State Police Command recently made strides against another robbery syndicate terrorizing the Olomore area of Abeokuta North. A suspected gang member, identified as Jonah Onah, was apprehended at a notorious hideout following a raid based on credible intelligence.
