No fewer than five minors have been recused from the clutches of suspected traffickers by officials of the Federal Capital Territory police command.
According to a statement by SP Josephine Adeh, Police Public Relations Officer, FCT Command, the operatives arrested two female suspects, Kulu Dogonyaro and Elizabeth Ojah, on April 27, 2024, at around 8:00 p.m. at Kagini Junction, Abuja.
The rescued children, whose ages range from 6 to 12 years old, have been handed over to the Sokoto State Police Command for further investigation and reunification with their families.
The suspects were intercepted while attempting to convey the five children into the Federal Capital Territory.
“The suspects, who initially attempted to escape arrest from Sokoto police operatives, were finally apprehended by our eagle-eyed officers in Abuja,” Adeh said.
“We are working closely with our counterparts in Sokoto to ensure that the children are safely returned to their loved ones.”
The police commissioner reiterated the command’s commitment to combating child trafficking and other crimes in the FCT. “We will continue to work tirelessly to ensure the safety and security of all residents, especially our children,” he emphasized.
The suspects, Kulu Dogonyaro and Elizabeth Ojah are currently in police custody and will be charged to court upon completion of investigations.
