The Katsina State Police Command has successfully thwarted a kidnapping attempt by bandits in Faru village, Jibia Local Government Area.
According to The PUNCH, in a statement released on Thursday by the Command Public Relations Officer, ASP Abubakar Sadiq, the incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday, August 29, 2024.
He detailed, “Today, August 29, 2024, at about 0115hrs, a distress call was received at the Jibia Divisional Police Headquarters on a bandits attack on Faru village, Jibia LGA, kidnapping one person.”
The DPO Jibia immediately mobilized a joint team, including operatives, members of the Katsina State Community Watch Corps, and the local vigilante group, to respond to the situation.
“The team valiantly engaged the assailants in a gun duel, successfully rescued the kidnapped victim unhurt, and foiled the attack as the assailants fled the scene with various degrees of bullet injuries,” the statement continued.
The police spokespsrson noted that efforts are underway to apprehend the fleeing suspects.
The Commissioner of Police, Aliyu Abubakar, praised the professionalism and bravery shown by the operatives and urged them to continue their efforts against crime and criminality in the state, particularly in combating kidnapping and banditry, to ensure a safer Katsina State.
