A Policeman identified as Obagi Njok, who was responsible for the death of Aba-based businessman in Abia State, Mr. Emmanuel Okocha, has been officially dismissed from the Police Force.
Spokesperson for the State Police Command, ASP Maureen Chinaka, confirmed the dismissal in a statement.
This decision follows the findings of a disciplinary committee established by the Abia State Police Command to scrutinize the incident.
Mr. Okocha, a well-known businessman from Abiriba in Ohafia LGA, was fatally shot in Aba in April 2024 by Corporal Njok.
The statement, which denounced any form of misconduct and indiscipline within the Command, highlighted that the investigation included input from the deceased’s family and other relevant stakeholders.
“Police Corporal Obagi Njok (as he was then) was found guilty of discreditable conduct to wit misuse of fire arms and has therefore been dismissed from the Nigerian Police Force.
“Investigation into the criminal aspects of his conduct has also been concluded and the matter has therefore been handed over to the office of the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice Abia state on 24/05/2024 for prosecution in court,” the statement said.
