The Kano State Police Command has distributed a total of N83,102,207.38 to 45 beneficiaries, including the families of deceased officers and injured personnel.
According to The PUNCH, the cheques were presented by the state’s Commissioner of Police, Salman Garba, on Tuesday evening as part of efforts to ease the burden on affected families.
In a statement released by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Haruna, the initiative was described as a transparent commitment by the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) to improving the welfare of officers and their families.
Haruna stated, “The presentation of cheques to the beneficiaries reflects the IGP’s dedication to supporting police personnel and their immediate family members. This initiative demonstrates the force’s resolve to care for those who have served and made sacrifices for the nation.”
The beneficiaries, who include the next of kin of deceased officers as well as officers who were victims of accidents, expressed their gratitude for the financial support. Several recipients praised the IGP’s welfare scheme, highlighting that the funds came at a critical time.
One beneficiary remarked, “This initiative by the IGP is a lifeline for us. The money will be put to good use, and it arrived when we needed it the most.”
The event served as a reminder of the police force’s ongoing commitment to its personnel and their families, especially in times of need.
“This welfare program underscores the importance of recognising the sacrifices made by officers and ensuring that their loved ones are cared for,” Haruna added.
The Kano State Police Command’s support to families of officers who have paid the ultimate price or sustained injuries is part of a broader national effort to ensure the well-being of the force’s personnel across the country.
