The Kogi State Police Command has disbursed cheques worth N48,681,738.48 to the families of 22 deceased officers as part of its group life assurance policy.
The presentation, which took place on Wednesday, September 3, 2024, was made on behalf of the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, by the Commissioner of Police for Kogi State, Bethrand Onuoha.
According to The PUNCH, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP William Aya, the cheques were presented to the families of officers who lost their lives in active service, as well as officers injured while performing their duties.
“This initiative underscores our commitment to supporting the families of our fallen heroes and ensuring that those injured in the line of duty receive adequate assistance,” the statement read. “The welfare of both serving and retired officers remains a top priority for the IGP.”
CP Onuoha, while offering condolences to the grieving families, praised the sacrifice and dedication of the late officers.
He also urged the families to make prudent use of the funds provided, stressing its importance in improving their living conditions.
“The loss of these brave officers is deeply felt, and this gesture, while it cannot replace them, is a symbol of our gratitude for their service,” Onuoha said. “We encourage the injured officers to focus on their recovery and trust in the continued support of the Force.”
In response, beneficiaries of the group life assurance cheques expressed their appreciation to the IGP and the Nigeria Police Force. Many pledged to use the funds responsibly to support their families.
This latest initiative forms part of the ongoing welfare improvements under IGP Egbetokun’s administration, aimed at enhancing the morale and well-being of police officers across the country.
