The Abia State Police Command has addressed the circumstances surrounding the recent arrest of Ceekay Igara, the Labour Party’s National Vice Chairman for the South-East, stating that he was invited for questioning based on a petition from the party’s acting state chairman.
The allegations include impersonation and other offenses.
According to The PUNCH, the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Maureen Chinaka, clarified that Igara, alongside three others, was invited for alleged involvement in actions likely to cause a breach of peace, impersonation, and obtaining by false pretence.
“The Abia State Police Command received a petition from the Labour Party’s Acting State Chairman against Mr. Ceekay Igara and three others for impersonation, obtaining by false pretence, and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace,” the statement said.
The police confirmed that Igara was questioned by detectives at the command headquarters and released the same day after giving his statement. The investigation into the allegations is ongoing.
“Yesterday, detectives from the Command invited Mr. Igara to the Command Headquarters, took his statement, and released him the same day. Investigation is ongoing,” the statement added.
Earlier reports had indicated that the Labour Party leadership, through its Deputy National Chairman, Dr. Ayo Olorunfemi, demanded Igara’s release, claiming he was arrested on the orders of Abia Governor, Dr. Alex Otti.
However, the police statement did not reference any political involvement in the arrest.
