The Rivers State Police Command has confirmed a fire outbreak on the Trans-Niger Delta Pipeline, operated by Shell Petroleum Development Company, assuring residents that the situation is under control.
According to a statement on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, Grace Iringe-Koko, the fire was detected on Monday night during a security patrol.
Officers on duty promptly alerted SPDC, leading to an immediate shutdown of the affected section and the activation of safety measures.
“There is no further threat to residents or the environment,” Iringe-Koko stated.
While the exact cause of the fire remains uncertain, the police spokesperson noted that an investigation is underway.
She also disclosed that two individuals had been detained for questioning regarding the incident.
“The Rivers State Police Command has commenced a thorough investigation to determine the cause of the fire. In connection with this, two individuals have been taken in for questioning as part of efforts to uncover any potential act of sabotage,” she said.
Iringe-Koko assured the public that law enforcement agencies remain committed to ensuring safety and holding any responsible parties accountable.
