Three members of a notorious motorcycle-snatching syndicate, who have been terrorizing the Owode-Egba area in Obafemi-Owode Local Government, Ogun State, have been apprehended by the Ogun State Police Command.
According to The PUNCH, the Command’s spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the arrest on Tuesday.
She explained that the suspects were taken into custody following an attack on Rotimi Bajela, a resident of Ijemo Kukoyi village, along the Shiun-Owode Expressway.
Bajela had reported that the suspects ambushed him while he was riding his Boxer Bajaj motorcycle on the Ajura/Olojo/Shiun road.
According to the victim, the robbers shot at him but when the bullet did not harm him, they attacked him with a machete, leaving him with injuries to his head and neck. The assailants then stole his motorcycle, cash, and mobile phone.
Odutola stated, “On October 11, 2024, valuable information from a concerned resident helped police track down the suspects responsible for attacking 60-year-old Rotimi Bajela.
The victim was traveling from Ajura Township to Ijemo Kukoyi Village when three men armed with a gun and machete emerged from the bushes and attacked him.”
The attackers, identified by Bajela as Adegboyega Sarafa, 42, Soliu Bankole, 38, and Sogo Idris, alias Agbara, 46, were apprehended by the police on October 14. During their arrest, a locally made gun and the machete used in the attack were recovered.
Odutola added, “When our officers visited Mr. Bajela in the hospital, he confirmed that he could identify the attackers, which aided in their swift arrest. Investigations into the matter are ongoing.”
This arrest comes after a similar case on September 23, when the police arrested three suspected robbers linked to a different robbery syndicate terrorizing the Ejirin community in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State.
