The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a suspected armed robber, Jonah Onah, who is alleged to have been terrorizing the Olomore area in Abeokuta North Local Government Area.
The arrest was made during a raid led by the Divisional Police Officer of Lafenwa Division, following credible intelligence.
According to The PUNCH, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, revealed that the operation took place on October 23, 2024, at around 9:50 PM.
“Jonah Onah, a notorious criminal, was apprehended during a raid on a criminal hideout in the Olomore area, a location notorious for various criminal activities,” Odutola said.
She added that Onah is believed to be part of a group involved in theft and pickpocketing.
During the arrest, the police recovered a decoy gun and a jackknife, which were in Onah’s possession. Odutola noted that the authorities are continuing investigations to track down other members of the robbery syndicate.
“The police recovered a decoy gun and a jackknife from the suspect. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend other members of the syndicate,” she stated.
This arrest follows the recent apprehension of another suspected armed robber, Imole Ajayi, on October 18, 2024. Ajayi, 27, was arrested in the Agbara area of the state after being found with a single-barrel shotgun and live cartridges.
He is believed to be part of a one-chance armed robbery gang operating in the area, targeting stranded motorists.
According to Odutola, the police continue to intensify their efforts in combating crime and ensuring the safety of residents across the state.
