The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has apprehended a suspect, Tijani Uzairu, in connection with the killing of a mechanic, Chukwu Chukwudi, in the Kugbo area of Abuja.
Spokesperson for the FCT Police Command, Josephine Adeh, revealed this in a statement issued on Thursday.
The unfortunate incident occurred around 4 p.m. on Thursday, as detailed by Ms. Adeh.
An altercation ensued among four individuals, with Uzairu and Chukwudi taking the lead.
Regrettably, during the dispute, one of the individuals fatally stabbed Chukwudi in the neck, leading to his untimely demise.
“Following a tragic incident at Kugbo Mechanic, Abuja, today being 20/06/2024 at about 04:00 PM, involving a mechanic and four others currently at large, including one Tijani Uzairu who brought in a vehicle for repairs.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that an argument ensued between them and the mechanic upon which one Chukwu Chukwudi was stabbed on the neck with a dagger by one of the suspects,” she said
“In a quick response to the incident, the police operatives from Karu Division, arrived at the scene while Chukwudi was immediately rushed to the hospital for treatment.
“Upon receipt of the complaint, police operatives from Karu Division mobilised to the scene where one Tijani Uzairu who accompanied the other suspects was arrested and the victim was rushed to the hospital where the doctor on duty confirmed him dead,” the police spokespsrson added.
Adeh also mentioned that the Commissioner of Police FCT, CP Benneth C. Igweh, has directed a thorough investigation into the incident, emphasizing the restoration of normalcy. He further urged the public to avoid violence, highlighting its often severe and regrettable consequences.
