The Bauchi State Police Command has detained a 30-year-old individual, Aminu Mohammed, accused of impersonating a Nigerian Army officer for the past two years in Magaji Quarters, Bauchi Local Government Area.
The State Police Command’s spokesperson, SP Ahmed Wakil, shared this information with journalists on Thursday in Bauchi.
He highlighted that such impersonation contravenes Sections 110(1) and 251 of the Criminal Code.
Wakil mentioned that Mohammed was apprehended on Monday by operatives from the Tafawa Balewa Housing Estate Divisional Police “C” Division following a lodged complaint.
The suspect is accused of fraudulently obtaining N210,000 from an unsuspecting individual by promising to help secure a job in the Nigerian Army.
Wakil explained that the suspect deceitfully directed his victim to contact his friend, currently at large, to facilitate entry into the Nigerian Military School in Zaria, Kaduna State.
“However, after spending eight days in Zaria, the victim could not meet the individual who was supposed to take him to the training school,” Wakil stated.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Mohammed had never served or worked with the military.
Wakil added that Mohammed had acquired a pair of camouflage trousers from a friend who is a serving military personnel.
The state’s Commissioner of Police, CP Auwal Musa, has ordered the transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department for a thorough investigation to uncover more facts for prosecution.
