The Kaduna State Police Command has arrested a notorious gunrunner and seized 20 locally fabricated AK-47 rifles during a routine patrol in the Buruku area.
The suspect, identified as Bitrus Gyang from Barkin Ladi in Plateau State, was intercepted by officers of the Buruku Division on September 19, 2024, while driving a black Golf III saloon vehicle. Upon inspection, the rifles and an empty Type 06 magazine were discovered hidden in the vehicle’s boot.
According to The PUNCH, the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Mansir Hassan, Gyang confessed to being involved in gunrunning and disclosed that he had transported weapons on multiple occasions in the past.
“The suspect has admitted to making at least three previous trips carrying locally fabricated rifles. He is currently cooperating with the investigation, and efforts are being made to locate his accomplices,” Hassan said.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Audu Dabigi, praised the officers involved for their vigilance and assured the public of ongoing efforts to tackle criminal activities in the state.
“Criminals, including kidnappers and bandits, will find no safe haven in Kaduna State,” Dabigi emphasized.
In a related development, the Nigeria Police Force recently dismantled a notorious gunrunning network and arrested over 2,700 individuals linked to various crimes across the country in the past month.
