The Jigawa State Police Command has arrested a gang of suspected criminals, including an ex-convict, accused of stealing vehicles, motorcycles, and livestock across the state.
According to the command’s spokesperson, SP Shi’isu Adam, the arrests followed a coordinated intelligence effort and a swift response by law enforcement officers.
Adam disclosed in a statement issued on Thursday in Dutse that officers acted on a tip-off in the early hours of March 7, 2025, after discovering a suspiciously parked black Golf Wagon with registration number X MG 102 AAA Jigawa near Gidan Tilo village along the Shuwarin-Kiyawa road in Kiyawa Local Government Area.
“The vehicle was suspected to have been abandoned by criminals preparing to commit an unlawful act,” Adam stated. “A patrol team was immediately deployed to the scene.”
Upon arrival, officers found a suspect, identified as 20-year-old Alhassan Isiyaku, also known as Tata, hiding inside the vehicle. A search of the car led to the discovery of various tools believed to be used for theft, including master keys, ropes, an iron cutter, a padlock, and a flog spanner.
“Isiyaku was taken into custody, and upon interrogation, he admitted to being involved in multiple crimes, including animal rustling, and the theft of tricycles, motorcycles, and cars,” Adam revealed.
Further investigation led to the arrest of another suspect, Umar Abdullahi, who was reportedly involved in stealing solar batteries and electric armor cables.
Police records indicate that Isiyaku had previously been arrested on February 21, 2025, for stealing a Mazda 323 with registration number MNA 139HK, Niger State.
In an unrelated case, the police also arrested Mujitaba Suleiman, a 30-year-old suspect from Roni Local Government Area, for allegedly stealing a motorcycle worth ₦800,000.
“A patrol team from Kazaure Division intervened and rescued Suleiman before he could escape. During questioning, he confessed to the crime,” Adam confirmed.
The police assured residents that all suspects would face prosecution.
“We remain committed to making Jigawa State safer by tackling crime head-on. We urge residents to continue providing us with useful information to help rid the state of criminal elements,” Adam emphasized.
