The Ondo State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a 20-year- old apprentice Josiah Godwin who allegedly killed his master Savior Joseph in the Akure South Local Government Area of Ondo State.
Punch Metro gathered that the culprit dumped the corpse of his boss in a well at Imafon Community, in Akure South Local Government Area of the state.
Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer, Funmilayo Odunlami, in a telephone interview with our correspondent said the culprit was arrested following intel from the neighbours.
The suspect was said to have committed the act in retaliation after his boss allegedly beat him up.
Odunlami said “Yes it’s true, the suspect is in police custody. He claimed his boss beat him up.
“The young man has been arrested and investigation has commenced, after which he will be charged to court as soon as we are done with our investigations.”
Narrating what transpired, the elder brother of the deceased, Odey Julius Ogbaji, told newsmen that they discovered his brother’s corpse four days ago in a well at the site where the deceased and the apprentice went to work at Imafon Community.
Ogbaji said “last week Tuesday, the deceased called me in the morning where we spoke but on Wednesday, I tried his number but couldn’t get through. I thought he had a flat battery until Saturday when I was called by another younger brother of mine, which the deceased followed, briefing me on how efforts to reach the deceased has been abortive”.
“Afterwards, the deceased’s apprentice was contacted. When they got the boy, they asked him about the whereabouts of his master and he said his boss woke him up at night, collected his phone, smashed it on the floor and began to beat him, and later asked him to sleep.
“He said, the following day, he decided to leave the site. So, we asked him, ‘how will he wake up in the morning without seeing his boss and left the site?’ He said he thought his master went to the toilet when he left.
“When we checked the phone he said was smashed on the floor by the deceased, there was no scratch on it. Aside from that, he switched off his phone and didn’t report to anybody.”
