A 49-year-old car dealer, Ibrahim Yakubu, faced arraignment by the Lagos Police Command on Monday in a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court for alleged fraud.
The defendant, whose address remains undisclosed, is charged with fraud and stealing.
Yakubu entered a plea of not guilty to the charges.
According to the prosecutor, Inspector Edet Ekpo, the offences occurred in December 2022, at approximately 10:00 a.m., at 98 Timmy Jas, Agelaso, Badagry, Lagos.
Ekpo stated that Yakubu allegedly received N1,150,000 from the complainant, Pan John, under the false pretense of purchasing a Toyota Corolla car on his behalf.
The prosecutor further accused the defendant of misappropriating the funds for personal use.
These actions, Ekpo said, violate Sections 314 and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos state, 2015.
Chief Magistrate A. J. Aina granted Yakubu bail in the amount of N300,000, requiring two sureties in the same sum. The sureties must be gainfully employed.
The case is scheduled for hearing on August 18.
