The Lagos State Police Command has arraigned four men before the Ikeja Magistrate Court for allegedly stealing their company’s reinforcement steel valued N5.1 million on Friday.
According to The News Agency of Nigeria, the four accused of the crime are 42-year-old storekeeper, Olaleye Akintola; 27-year-old driver, Michael Taiwo; 52-year-old iron bender, Femi Olaoye; and Wasiu Bashiru, 44.
They are being charged with conspiracy and theft. The prosecution, ASP Raji Akeem, informed the court that the crimes occurred on September 16 at a firm on Wemco Road in Ogba, Lagos.
According to Akeem, the defendants took 10 tonnes of reinforcement steel from the company. The defendants, according to him, were supposed to bring the steel to a location in Ilorin, Kwara State, but instead they sent it to another location.
The prosecution claims that the offenses violate Sections 287 and 411 of the Lagos State Criminal Law from 2015. The accused, however, entered a not guilty plea to the accusations.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs B. O. Osunsanmi, granted them N300, 000 bail with two sureties in like sum. Osunsanmi adjourned the case until October 31 for mention
