The operatives of the Plateau State Police Command and other security have jointly foiled an attempt by gunmen to kidnap students of the State University , Bokkos.
It was gathered that some gunmen had invaded its female hostel between the night of Tuesday and Wednesday in an attempt to kidnap students.
The management of the institution said the institution’s security operatives repelled the attack and foiled the abduction of students.
While confirming the incident to journalists in Jos, PLASU public relations officer, Mr John Agams, said the hoodlums attacked the institution to kidnap students but they were repelled by the local security men in the university.
“It is true that gunmen attempted to kidnap some of our students, but the attempt was repelled by our local security men.
“In the process, one student was injured, but no one was abducted,” he said.
On their part, the state police command has said in its commitment to the safety of life and property has again foiled another kidnap attempt by some unknown hoodlums at the Plateau State University Bokkos.
The command’s spokesman, DSP Alfred Alabo, in a statement, confirmed the incident, explaining that the distress call by the security personnel of the vice chancellor and other members of the members of the public who made several calls to their control rooms, and other senior officers to alert them on the development in that area immensely contributed to their quick response to the scene to repel the invasion.
He said, “On May 9, 2023 at about 1915hrs, unknown hoodlums attempted to kidnap some female off-campus students who went out to fetch firewood at a nearby bush when they ran out of cooking gas.”
The statement added that, “Upon receipt of this information, the divisional police officer (DPO) Bokkos Division aided by other security operatives gave a hot chase to the hoodlums as a result of which they abandoned their evil plan which aided the escape and rescue of the students unhurt. No life was lost and no student was raped as alleged on social media and some news platforms.”
