Peter Okoye, one half of the renowned Nigerian music duo P-Square, has spoken out regarding the ongoing feud between him and his twin brother, Paul.
Addressing the situation on X on Monday, Peter strongly denied allegations that he had reported Paul to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
Instead, he explained that his primary concern was uncovering the truth behind a secret company, Northside Music, allegedly established by their elder brother, Jude Okoye, and his wife, Ifeoma.
In his detailed statement, Peter clarified the nature of P-Square as both a family entity and a public brand, emphasizing the importance of transparency with their fans.
He acknowledged that their personal lives inevitably intersect with their public personas, making it necessary to share certain issues with the public.
He wrote, “It’s always surprising to me when people say, ‘P-Square is always bringing their family matters into the public eye.’ Let me clarify this. P-Square is not just a family – it’s a public brand, but Peter, Paul, Jude, Anita, Ifeoma, Lola, and the rest of our family members are family, but P-Square is an entity that belongs to the public as much as it does belong to us.”
He further stressed the significance of their fans, stating, “Our fans have played a significant role in our success, so they have the right to know what’s happening with their beloved brand P-Square. That’s why it’s understandable when certain aspects of our lives are shared publicly.”
Peter vehemently denied ever reporting his brother Paul to the EFCC, countering claims made by Paul that Peter had filed a petition against him, leading to a supposed detention by the anti-graft agency.
Peter responded to these claims by stating, “I want to make it clear that I never reported my twin brother Paul to the EFCC. I know many of you were disappointed when Paul accused me of doing so.”
Peter then revealed the core of the dispute, which centers around the discovery of a mysterious company, Northside Music.
He said this company, which bore a similar name to their management firm Northside Entertainment, was secretly registered by Jude and Ifeoma Okoye.
“One day, I discovered another company with a similar name, but this one was called Northside Music instead of Northside Entertainment,” he explained.
This revelation prompted Peter to investigate further, leading to the shocking discovery that millions of dollars and hundreds of millions of Naira had been funneled into this secret company over the years.
Peter noted that his efforts to confront Paul about the matter were met with denial, despite multiple attempts to discuss the situation.
He shared, “I approached him multiple times – at least four different times – asking if he knew anything about this secret company and the whereabouts of some of P-Square’s royalties. Each time I met with him, he denied knowing anything about it.”
He also challenged Paul to provide evidence of any petition filed against him, underscoring that his legal actions were directed solely at Jude and Ifeoma, not Paul.
“I hereby challenge Paul, or anyone else, to show any petition that I, Peter Okoye, ever submitted against my twin brother Paul or that has Paul’s name on it. The focus was to remain solely on the primary suspects, Jude Okoye and his wife, Ifeoma Okoye,” he stressed.
Peter went on to express his shock and disappointment after watching Paul’s recent interview, where Paul reiterated his accusations, stating, “I watched and listened to Paul’s interview, I was totally speechless and I kept asking myself, ‘how does Paul have the audacity to publicly tell lies like this, even with a respected and reputable agency like the EFCC?’”
Peter elaborated on the scale of the financial betrayal, stating that the diversion of funds into Northside Music’s account was not a minor issue, but a “massive betrayal that had been going on for several years.”
Despite the acrimony, Peter disclosed that he had tried to resolve the matter privately with both Paul and Jude before resorting to legal action. However, after being met with resistance and what he described as a dismissive attitude from Paul, Peter felt compelled to take the matter to the authorities. He recalled a heated exchange with Paul, where Paul allegedly told him, “Peter, go and do your worst.” This, according to Peter, left him with no choice but to report the issue to the EFCC.
Peter concluded by stating that during the EFCC’s investigation, Jude eventually admitted to the financial diversion, leading to the freezing of his bank accounts. Reflecting on the fallout, Peter expressed frustration over Paul’s consistent efforts to discredit his contributions to P-Square, highlighting the deep-seated tensions that have plagued the brothers since their split and subsequent solo careers as Rudeboy and Mr. P.
