The Oyo State Police Command confirmed the arrest of the officers featured in a widely circulated video, where they were seen soliciting money from a female biker touring Nigeria from the Netherlands.
In a statement released on Thursday via X, the command declared that the implicated operatives would undergo disciplinary procedures.
“Viral video portraying the regrettable misconduct of certain policemen along Moniya-Iseyin Road has been accessed. All those involved have been apprehended for immediate disciplinary actions. Supervision will be increased. Please report any misconduct to Xsquad on +2348023535470,” the post read.
The officers stopped the biker in the video, inquiring about her origin and destination.
The Dutch woman mentioned she was from the Netherlands and en route to Abuja, evidently causing surprise among the two officers.
Interacting with the biker further in pidgin, the officers said: “Wetin you bring come? Wetin you won give me. O yah give me something nah.”
The tourist appeared not to comprehend the officers’ message until they clearly said, “Give me money, money,” to which she asked, “Why?”
Nigerians expressed embarrassment over the actions of the policemen, as seen in the 1:26-minute video.
