The Oyo State Government has expressed deep condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in the tragic accident along the Ojoo-Iwo Road in Ibadan, which, according to police reports, claimed 16 lives.
The accident, which occurred on the busy thoroughfare, has left the community in mourning.
In a statement released on Thursday, the Acting Governor of Oyo State, Barrister Bayo Lawal, offered heartfelt sympathies to the affected families and emphasized the government’s commitment to collaborating with relevant stakeholders to prevent similar incidents in the future.
“It is with a heavy heart that we address the devastating incident that has grief-stricken our community,” the statement read. “We extend our sincerest condolences to the families affected by this tragic event.”
The statement, signed by the Commissioner for Information, Prince Dotun Oyelade, further disclosed that 16 survivors, including 5 females, 11 males, and 5 children, were taken to a private medical facility in Agbowo, Ibadan, for treatment.
The Commissioner noted that top officials from the Ministry of Health have been dispatched to assess the condition of the victims, and the government is awaiting their report.
Meanwhile, the acting governor is actively coordinating with the Oyo State Road Traffic Management Agency, the Federal Road Safety Corps and other relevant bodies to implement measures aimed at preventing such tragic incidents in the future.
Prince Dotun Oyelade concluded the statement by reaffirming the government’s dedication to ensuring the safety of its citizens on the roads, noting that efforts are being intensified to minimize the recurrence of such accidents.
