Between January and now, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, FCT Command, reported intercepting 3,091.032 kilogrammes of illegal substances worth approximately N56.9 million.
This information was provided in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Wednesday in Abuja by Mr. Kabir Tsakuwa, the agency’s FCT Commandant.
According to Tsakuwa, the illegal substances found included cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine, suspected cannabis sativa, Tramadol, Rohypnol, Diazepam, Ecstasy, and Megadon.
He added that there were 328 men and 15 women among the 343 drug suspects who were detained during the evaluation period.
According to Tsakuwa, it was observed that throughout the examined timeframe, a total of 188 individuals involved in drug-related offences were subjected to legal proceedings.
Among them, 126 individuals were found guilty and subsequently received sentences of varying lengths of imprisonment.
Based on his statement, the largest seizure among the 3,091.032 kilogrammes of illicit narcotics confiscated from January till the present time was attributed to cannabis sativa.
Tsakuwa said, “Drugs seized were cannabis sativa 3,022.529 kilogrammes, cocaine 0.114 kilogramnes, Methamphetamine 1.25 kilogrammes, Heroin 0.0021 kilogrammes.
“We also seized suspected Tramadol 18.578 kilogrammes, Rohypnol 1.195 kilogrammes, Diazepam 4.471 kilogrammes, Ecstasy 0.113 kilogrammes and Megadon 0.263 kilogrammes.
“The monetary value of these drugs stands approximately N56, 903, 600 only.
